Diversity Programs Can Change Your Perspective

Our values and ideals are reflected through our actions. Different people may look at every opportunity from a different light, and not from a particular point of view. In today’s world, being inclusive of and celebrating diversity is important for businesses in every industry, and especially in healthcare. Creating a positive and accepting environment for all staff members is key for workplace productivity and happiness.

There are various organizations that are offering skill based diversity programs to their employees to foster and develop diversity in the workplace and help employees embrace their diverse backgrounds. Skill based diversity programs not only work to help staff members to perform better, but also create a more open work environment and fosters confidence among workers. These programs empower workers to make decisions and take on leadership roles within the organization. By attending or being a part of programs that promote diversity, you will develop an understanding and respect of your co-worker’s perspectives and background, creating a more well-functioning work environment.

The benefits of being a part of a diversity training programs are plentiful. Not only are you honing your own skills, but you also are learning the importance of treating your colleagues as your equals, understanding their background, and celebrating and promoting the importance of diversity in a workplace environment. It takes work, understanding and patience to create an inclusive and productive working environment for a company, especially in the healthcare industry. Communication and understanding between staff and patients, and between all staff members, is necessary to create a healthy working environment.

Participating in skill based diversity programs will provide you with beneficial skills and understanding to implement into your career. For more information on these programs in the field of nursing, visit mghhausman.com.

Boost Your Confidence and Skills through a Diversity Nursing Fellowship Program

A little guidance goes a long way, and from my personal experience, I can say that mentorship should be adapted in all spheres of life and for everyone so that all of us get a fair chance to build ourselves.  As a person from an underprivileged background, mentor programs are especially beneficial for people like me who wouldn’t otherwise have the chance for a leg up in their career.

Since childhood, I’ve dreamt of becoming a nurse. As a child, I used to make caps of paper, place it on my head and whenever we used to play, I had to be the nurse who tends to people. This dream grew with me and by the time I was in college, this was something I wanted to pursue. I started sending applications and wherever I went for interviews I was not selected based on my inexperience and the quality of my schooling. A year passed and nothing happened.

My uncle worked at a reputed hospital and he referred me to the diversity program conducted in the hospital. I was, am and will always be thankful to him. We were taught about the various aspects of healthcare and had to undergo orientation programs, classes, and the best of all, practical application.  Getting enrolled in this program automatically enables you to be a part of the diversity mentoring program where we were allowed to speak to our assigned mentors about our experiences, situations, and frustrations during our training period.

The mentors were amazing and encouraged me to a great extent. They made me look at my capabilities and helped me develop a more analytical mind. I developed confidence, and by the end of the training, I was selected to work as a trainee in the hospital. They even taught me to respect my background and celebrate being a part of it.
If you have a dream and what to realize it put your full effort and with proper mentoring through diversity mentoring program and training you can achieve your goal.

How the Nursing Diversity Program Helped me Fulfill my Nursing Dreams

Hello readers! I am a nurse and would like to share with you my experience on how I became a nurse and what inspired me to pursue this career path. When I was growing up, I would only see my mother at night. She was also a nurse, working in the same hospital as I do now. Whenever I asked her what she did all day, she used to say “I help sick people and help them become well”. I always pictured her as a modern day super heroine who works by day and turns into a great mom by night.

That was pretty much what inspired me; I wanted to be just like my mother and do the things she did. In order to get better exposure and experience, my mother enrolled me in one of the diversity training programs that were offered by her hospital for the staff’s children. Out of hundreds of entries, I was one of the 15 people selected for this fellowship. It was one of my proudest achievements.

The fellowship was a six-week program and started with an orientation, phlebotomy classes and nursing orientation. Each fellow had their own individual mentor who guides them in their various classes throughout the program. We had to work in shifts, and every Friday we used sit with our mentors and be encouraged to speak freely and discuss our problems and experience. At the end of the fellowship, we had to give presentations in our graduation ceremony to share with the audience how the program had benefited us.

My mother was extremely proud when she heard my presentation and that I had decided to follow her career path in nursing. It was a wonderful experience, and for those who are searching for diversity training programs in nursing, be sure to send in your application soon for a better chance of enrollment and a good prospect of developing a nursing career.
